Starting point

A good part of my life I grew up overweight. It wasn't until I tore my lateral and medial meniscus that my weight passed the 300 pound mark. Once I hit 338 lbs I quit weighing myself because who wants to deliver bad news to themselves?
Not only was I 338+ lbs, I had a fatty liver, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, limited movement in my knee, depressed, pre diabetic, and back pain. Not to mention stress from personal health, over 25k in debt, a child to raise, and no job.
My surgeon insisted I had to lose weight but because of my knee limited me to 10 minutes of a stationery bike each day.
First option was to get a bypass surgery to drop weight. After researching the types of gastric bypass surgeries I decided to get a lapband surgery where a ring would be surgically implanted around the upper part of your stomach.
Excited to get the surgery done I had to attend my consultation. During the consultation I'm told that once I get surgery I'll have to quit drinking soda. Otherwise the soda will stretch my stomach out again and the surgery will be a complete waste.
Drinking 4+ sodas a day I wasn't ready to give up soda for life. I couldn't imagine eating dinner and not having 2 or 3 refreshing sodas to wash it down with. Not only did I not want to, I was addicted I couldn't give up soda.
I went home and excepted I'll be obese for the rest of my unhealthy life. At least I'll be able to eat what I want and drink as many sodas as I want with that food. Besides its in my genetics most of my family was overweight because it's hereditary.

It's time to get into a gym

First Workouts

The   time had come I joined a local gym. Nerves and anxiety were through the roof. The feeling of not belonging somewhere was at an all time high. What was I doing there?    My first workout 15 minutes of cardio on an elliptical machine at the lowest level. Followed by a hour of roaming around machines and trying to figure how to use them. Eventually I'd work my way up to free weights but for now machines were going to be my best friend.    As the week's went on my cardio improved. Every workout  I'd aim for 1 more minute of cardio until I reached 30 mins. My weight sets (still on machines) increased from 3 sets of 6 to 3 sets of 8. Once I hit 3 sets of 10 my next goal was to go 4 sets of 10 and work my way up until I can hit 5 sets of 20. Remember I'm doing light weights.     The weight loss didn't come right away but more importantly I started feeling better about myself. Sometimes the pain in my knee would slow me down...

What are you taking?

The question I get asked most what did I take or what am I taking. " I have a friend named Jack and he knows a guy who sells magic seeds". There's no supplement or medication that's going to fix your weight. The key to supplements is they are made to supplement what your lifestyle. Drinking a replacement meal shake isn't going to help if you are taking in more calories than you are burning per day.   With that being said when I first started I didn't take any supplements. Slowly I started researching and experimenting with different supplements. During my first year the supplements I felt effective for me included fish oil and protein powder. Protein is about as important as water to your body and fish oil is good for your joints.   If you want to lose weight it comes down to burning more calories than you consume daily. Most people count all of their macros and I did for a while. Personally I feel calorie count is most important. If your body only burns x...

Breaking point

Having to sleep with a cpap machine and taking a handful of meds didn't inspire any change. Neither did having to shop at big and tall stores for 4XLT shirts and size 46 pants. Coming home with a custom made unloader knee brace is a whole new chapter. Not only was I big and bulky now there's a metal brace around my leg to make be even bulkier. Wearing shorts the brace would cause sweat to build up over my leg. Wearing the brace over pants and the brace would slide down causing even more pain to my knee.    Figuring I'm going to be in pain the rest of my life I decided the pain should be rewarding and joyful. 10 minutes on a stationary bike wasn't going to do it. I needed the least impact on my knee while burning as much calories as possible.    After plenty of vigorous research (Google searches) I came to the conclusion my highest calorie b urn with the least impact would be on an elliptical machine. Lifting weights with a 20 lb weight restrict...
